Augustus Roman Denarius
The reign of Augustus over the Roman Empire lasted between 27 B.C after he gain victory over Marcus Antonius until14 A.D Also known as Octavian and Sebastus his reign over the empire was prosperous and stable-The “Pax Romana”. King Herod the Great of Judea was known to have A very good relationship with Augustus. He builds The grand city of Caesarea in his honor including the most magnificent of ports in the Ancient world which he names Sebastus. Herod builds another city to honor Augustus Sebastus.
Augustus ruled the Empire at the time of the nativity and his minted coins were in circulation at the times of Jesus.
The Denarius is mentioned in the New testament: The Pharisees present Jesus with A Denarius asking who does it belong to and Jesus replies: “Render, therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and to God the things that are God’s” Matthew 22:15-22
